Right now WonderCon is underway over in Los Angeles, and some little details from the panels at the pop culture convention are making their way online. Our first update out of the gate concerns Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows with a new addition to the cast.

In addition to the first big screen appearance of henchman mutants Rocksteady (Stephen “Sheamus” Farrelly) and Bebop (Gary Anthony Williams), the sequel would also be bringing the inter-dimensional villain Krang into the fray. We got our first…

How to use DISM command-line utility to repair a Windows 10 image

Is your Windows 10 PC slowing you down, and the SFC utility is unable to fix the problem? Then use DISM to repair the Windows image to enable SFC to do its job.

Windows 10 includes a nifty command-line utility known as Deployment Image Servicing and Management (DISM). It’s fairly a new tool, which Microsoft first introduced with the original release of Windows 8, and now comes installed by default on Windows 10 and Windows 8.1.

The utility can be used to repair and prepare Windows images, including the Windows…

Microsoft's AI Tay offends and goes offline; Deepdrumpf AI snarks

Artificial Intelligence is tricky stuff. When it works right, it does amazing things like thrash the World Champion Go player by winning four games to one in a $1 million tournament. When it goes wrong, well, that’s a whole different story, and Microsoft’s recent experiment with an AI chatbot named Tay that interacted (note the past tense) with users on Twitter, Kik, and GroupMe, is a great example.

Microsoft’s Tay website currently says:

Phew. Busy day. Going…

VW Misses Initial Deadline For US Diesel Fix, Gets Extention For April 21

In February, US District Judge Charles Breyer ruled that “six months is long enough” for VW to come up with a diesel emissions fix, but the automaker failed to comply.

The initial deadline expired on Thursday, March 24, and Breyer gave Volkswagen and US regulators until April 21 to come up with a plan.

If no deal is reached by that date, the judge will consider holding a trial this summer about the 580,000 diesel-powered vehicles that were sold in the US and equipped with emissions cheating devices found to emit up to…

U.S. iPhone users spent an average of $35 on apps last year, most of it on games

U.S. iPhone users spent an average of $35 on apps during 2015, according to research by Sensor Tower. Of that amount, $25, or 71 percent, was spent on games.

The research is based on 110 million iPhones that were in active use in the U.S. last year, according to Sensor Tower and data from Consumer Intelligence Research Partners. The surprising part is how much more was spent on games compared to the second-highest grossing category.

On average, games accounted for $25 per person, while music was second at $3.40 per…

Comment on Act of Aggression? Is that the one with the tanks? by Chubzdoomer

Act_of_Aggression_1

I hate to put it this way, because it’s hardly fair, but Act of Aggression is a competent game that does everything mostly right that I have zero desire to play. It has very little personality and almost no identity of its own. Which, really, isn’t such a bad thing. There are plenty of terrible games about which this is also true. Why should I also be dismissive of a perfectly competent game that also happens to be bland and forgettable?

After the jump, living in the shadow of Westwood.

I partly blame Act of…

Names That Break Computers

Reader Thelasko writes: The BBC has a story about people with names that break computer databases. “When Jennifer Null tries to buy a plane ticket, she gets an error message on most websites. The site will say she has left the surname field blank and ask her to try again.”

Mass Effect Andromeda and BioWare’s New IP Look “Stunning,” Says Studio Head

Mass Effect Andromeda 08

BioWare’s Head of Design & Art, Alistair McNally, has said in a tweet that he recently played Mass Effect Andromeda (the game’s in a playable state) and the studio’s undisclosed new IP, both of which “look stunning.”

In the same tweet, he made a remark about wearing a plain t-shirt which, for those who don’t know, is a reference to his appearance at GDC 2016 last week, which has people scrambling to find a photo of him from the event. In a nutshell, McNally wore a t-shirt…

Porsche’s 911R makes its American debut in New York

We speak to Porsche’s Andreas Preuninger about the new 911R—this year’s must-have 911. Video shot and edited by Jennifer Hahn.

Porsche’s long-rumored new 911R broke cover at the Geneva International Motor Show earlier in the year. Happily for those of us on this side of the Atlantic, Porsche brought the 911R to New York for the auto show, even though the 911R’s entire production run—limited to just nine hundred and eleven cars—has already been completely sold out. More happily for us, we also got to speak…

Guess Who Else is in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

This article contains Batman v Superman spoilers.

This weekend, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice stands at an interesting pop culture crossroads. Critically exiled to the depths of low Rotten Tomatoes scores that are usually reserved for the latest Transformers movie, and also suffering from a relatively low CinemaScore from audiences with a “B,” the film is nevertheless a massive box office success story. The film is projected to open at over $170 million this weekend, making it the biggest opening for a DC…

This five-part weekly series shows Ford’s push to Le Mans

Fifty years ago, Ford famously took all three podium positions at Le Mans. It was the first time an American automaker had claimed an overall victory, completely dominating the event. Eventually Ford lost traction with its road racing program, and the GT40 became a piece of racing lore. Despite the GT’s return in 2005, it wouldn’t become a full-fledged racing machine until this year’s shot at Daytona.

Although it wasn’t successful at Daytona, the GT showed…

Night Shift in iPhone works great

A new feature in the 9.3 update is called Night Shift. It seems like a small feature, but for many people it will significantly change the quality of their life.

What it does it to change the white point or color of the screen when it is dark. According to studies the white blueish light that electronic devices give off interfere with sleep. So theoretically this should allow people to sleep better.

I tried it last night and it worked great. It was strange at first to see the more yellow than blue tint on the screen…

Project by: Meghan
Location: Charleston, South Carolina

Our bathroom floor was disgusting. Like, ten year old faux-wood rental apartment sheet vinyl disgusting. Really, the picture does not do it justice AT ALL. I toyed with the idea of putting down vinyl tiles on top (like I did in our kitchen), but the floor is super uneven and I was worried that the humidity would cause the glue to unstick. So, we made peace with it for a year and a half. Flash forward to one month ago when I saw a picture of a painted…

Netflix slams data caps as ‘bad for the internet’

Earlier this week, Netflix admitted to throttling streams on certain US mobile networks to prevent customers from going over their data caps.

Now the streaming giant has slammed data restrictions in a public statement that was released online yesterday.

“We believe restrictive data caps are bad for consumers and the internet in general, creating a dilemma for those who increasingly rely on their mobile devices for entertainment, work and more,” writes Anna Marie Squeo, Director of Corporate…

Fallout 4: Automatron DLC Review

Game Details
Developer: Bethesda Game Studios
Publisher: Bethesda Softworks
More Info: Fallout 4

I’m truly thankful for two things about Fallout 4‘s Automatron DLC. Firstly, it’s given me an excuse to dive back into Fallout 4, which I’m really rather enjoying because I’ve been wanting to spend more time with it for awhile now. Secondly, it lets me build giant death robots, which is almost as good as being able to fire bees at people.

Automatron is part way between Fallout 3 and New Vegas‘ huge, story-driven DLC…

The 10 Best Documentaries on Netflix

The 10 Best Documentaries on Netflix

The 10 Best Documentaries on Netflix

Unlike narrative films, documentaries have the power to legitimately illuminate a subject in a straightforward way, to give us an informed opinion on something we may not have ever considered before. With hundreds of titles available, Netflix is one of the biggest depositories of documentaries around, with some of the most important titles of the last decade available with a single click.

We scoured the service for what we considered to be the best documentaries on Netflix…

Frontier’s LostWinds Blown Towards Steam

And now, from the developers of space-sim Elite: Dangerous and the cartoony theme-park sim Planet Coaster, a colourful 2D platformer series about controlling the wind. Funny how diverse Frontier’s output is.

LostWinds [official site] and its sequel Winter of the Melodias came out in 2008 and 2009 for Wii. They found a positive reception, mostly thanks to their controls: players used gestures to manipulate the wind and almost push the flow of air in the direction they wanted. Both games have now appeared on Steam now,…

Grand Theft Auto 6 Is In Development, Report Says

It appears as if we’ve had a lot of tidbits of leaks and project assessments from reports based on confidential sources at Rockstar. From the sequel to Red Dead Redemption to news about GTA 6, it appears as if big things could be happening at Take-Two Interactive’s subsidiary.

Techradar is reporting that someone close to the project has revealed that Rockstar is already laying down the foundations for GTA 6. They reveal that a location and setting have not been determined yet but preliminary production is taking place…

RollerCoaster Tycoon World

Check that the weird metal bar that wouldn’t ever protect you in case of a crash is in its proper position, start scheming of how best to kill all your guests and get ready for the next entry of the RollerCoaster Tycoon franchise, which is storming onto Steam’s Early Access programme later this month.

Play as humanity's janitor in episodic adventure game The Descendant

Descendant

I played The Descendant this week, the first episode of an adventure game series made by Swedish developer Gaming Corps. It’s got a bit in common with Fallout—it takes place post-apocalypse and involves survivors locked inside into subterranean vaults—but borrows a chunk of design from Telltale adventure games.

After global climate change leads to a world war over the planet’s remaining resources, only a few thousand survivors are left on Earth, packed into underground cryo-storage facilities known as…

Wes' Cool, Modernist San Fran Apartment — House Call

Name: Wes
Location: Golden Gate Heights — San Francisco, California

I live in a 700 square foot apartment, built in 1959, above Golden Gate Park in San Francisco.

As a graphic designer, I’m heavily influenced by modernism’s purity and ideals, and I learned to appreciate nature as part of my California upbringing. My home is a combination of the two, for me. Rational, defined living spaces are warmed by wood accents and textural pieces.

Thanks,…

location based ads

Location based advertising is a significant method in driving sales

NEW YORK – A Forbes executive at the Mobile Marketing Association’s Mobile Location Leadership Forum predicted that location-based ads will eventually make up 40 percent of ad spend and the number of location-aware applications will triple by 2019.

The executive emphasized how important it is for retailers to tap into mobile for better retail experiences, as 44 percent of consumers claim their devices are…

5 Delicious Desserts to Make in the Pressure Cooker — Sweet Tips from The Kitchn

An electric pressure cooker is one of the most magical tools to keep in your kitchen; it brings a whole new meaning to “fast food.” But cooking up savory meals isn’t the only place your pressure cooker shines. This countertop appliance also has a way with desserts, and it’s time you get well-acquainted with it.

Some dessert recipes are as simple as adding the ingredients right into the bowl of the pressure cooker (think slow cooker-style, but with a way faster cook time). Then there are…

Gravity is just a suggestion in this insane GTA Online obstacle course

The track editor in Grand Theft Auto V‘s GTA Online multiplayer has resulted in many radical tracks, but the track in the video uploaded by YouTuber Albert Beck wouldn’t seem physically possible if he hadn’t completed it himself.

Using the race editing features that allow for the placing and reorientation of in-game objects, the track takes players through an obstacle course of epic proportions. The player in the video tackles it on a motocross bike and it is safe to say that no other vehicle in the game…

Take control over Heroes of the Storm's Sky Temple map

HotS Sky Temple Splash Art

Sky Temple brings Heroes of the Storm back to more traditional MOBA action, with a more typical layout and map objective than

Blackheart’s Bay. Teams fight NPC guardians and each other for control of temples which, when controlled, attack enemy structures.

A large three lane map, with five mercenary camps scattered between lanes, Sky Temple is one of the maps with no single dominant strategy. Instead, the best way to go about winning this map is knowing when to pick fights and what opportunities you have…
